Has anyone else found this, my front dics brakes seem to pour out a rediculous amount of dust, litterally coating the wheel covers. My driving habits are 99.9 highway (80 miles to work one way with 3 red lights) so i do very, very little braking. I can clean the wheels and by the of the next day they don't even look like i touched them at all... Still factory pads with 67K on them and they look great, no sqeaking or glaze, they still look new (3/8's or so of pad left.

Is this normal? If nothing else its frustrating at best, i finally gave up on cleaning the wheels for now, when i get tired of it completely i'll replace the wheel covers.

Get used to it, all dodge CTD's I have seen have this, including mine. It's just the type of pad they use, once mine get down there I will be looking for other types. I too hate cleaning them every three days in the summer, winter up here right now so all you see is dirt, mud, snow, no use washing it, just looks the same two says later.

I know there are some low dust or dust free pads out there but they don't fit all models Ram. Anyone know a good pad for the later year trucks?

i think if i can get 67k out of the front pads and they'll still look great i'll take the dust

Okay thanks, it just drives me nuts looking at the wheels, maybe i'll try to treat the new wheel covers with a laquer or something before i put them on in the spring...funny that the rear wheels don't coated at all... Good thing the dust is blended into the salt and road grime in the winter.

HEY FELLOWS, I AM ROUGH ON BRAKES. THE BEST ONES I FOUND ARE THE SEVERE DUTY PADS FROM NAPA. I ALSO USE A COATING ON THEM, WHICH I JUST DON'T HAPPEN TO KNOW THE NAME OF, BUT I HAVE THE CAN AT MY SHOP. THIS COATING GIVES 100% CONTACT ON THE ROTOR. IT REALLY SEEMS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. I PULL MY PADS OFF ABOUT ONCE A MONTH & ROUGH THEM UP ON CONCRETE & RECOAT THEM. I GET ABOUT 6 MONTHS OUT OF THEM IF I STAY HOME EVERY DAY. LOL!!

The right brake pads are a delicate balance, too hard and they squeal and wear out your rotors, too soft and the they make dust and wear out fast. The ones with the lifetime warranties are usually on the hard side.

I know there is a plate you can put on behind your wheels to keep the brake dust off of them. I dont know exactly what it is or how well it works, but I think I have seen them at Genos

I had considered fabricating something to basically close up the holes so the dust couldn't come forward onto the wheels, but my big concern would be heat disapation, assuming the wheel covers act to some degree to bring in fresh air to help cool the front discs. I'll do a bit of searching and see what i can find. Guess its pety to worry over the dust....but it looks horrid.

I checked some inserts out at JC Whitney. It appears as a thin sheet of metal that goes over the lugs/hub between the wheel and rotors. Haven't got around to trying a set out yet.
