Front crank seal with dust shield...

I just installed my front timing cover and the seal I got for it has the dust shield as well. What direction does the dust shield go on? The outside edge tapers, does the taper go towards the timing cover, or away from it?

I think the taper should go towards the timing cover, therefore any dust, dirt and grime will fall away from the seal. But would like conformation before I button things up.

dust shield should be facing forward. or in other words, it should taper forward.

So taper forwards...OK just so we are both on the same page....highest end of the taper against timing cover, lowest end of taper to the outside.....right?

Got mine off E-bay for $20, plus shipping, so about $25 US to my USA shipping address. Then I cross and bring it back.

Not up here in Canada...

It's ridiculous the mark up on the parts once they cross the border.
