Evaporator Cleaning idea

Hi All,
I've looked through the threads at cleaning the evaporator.
My truck is going on 18 years old now and the fan is putting out less and less air. It was never great (I've owned it since new) but now even on 4 it seems like it puts out what 2 used to put out.
Anyhow, I don't see an easy way but I was thinking of getting one of the A/C evap cleaners that I've seen advertised then switching the wires on the fan motor to blow back through the evaporator.
Does that seem like it would work or at least help?
I did take out the fan and there was a layer of dirt built up on the blades of the squirrel cage so there must be a lot more than that on the evaporator.

Thanks in advance.

I've seen threads where folks cut a hole in the air box to access the coils, then build a cover out of sheet metal or something else and screw it in place so they can access it again later. Using the Google search bar will get some results. Use the phrase "evaporator coil access". You can also look here.

Method that worked for me on a heater core that was plugged up with leafs was to close all dash vents, remove the far passenger side vent, vent selector on mid level.
Now the fun part, use a gas power leaf blower to blow backwards though the removed vent.
When I did it it looked like a waterfall of leafs shooting up at the base of the windshield.

I had that problem with "leafs" too.

Does anyone have a picture of the access door cutout for this? So far I am not having any luck finding one. Just want to make sure I am in the right sport before I start cutting.

This is one of the best solutions I've seen. Got it from the first gen section.
