E brake loose.
Has anyone tightened their own E brake? Mine is pretty loose and its starting to worry me. I can clearly see the line running under my truck and noticed there is a nut on a bolt surrounded by a metal shield. I tried sticking a closed end rench in there but cant get between the nut and shield. What do you guys suggest?

The e-brakes are adjusted like regular drum brakes at the rear discs. Don't mess with the equalizer bracket you mentioned. its factory set to apply = pull on both sides. Remove the ovel rubber dust cover like you see on drums on the backer plate and adjust with a brake adjustment tool or screwdriver. Mine were stuck and I had to pull the rotors and reset and lube them at 60K.

Hey, I found my notes on the e-brake adjustment. The drivers side starwheel gets turned down to spread the shoes and thus tighten the e-brake.
The passenger side starwheel gets turned upwards to tighten.
Get the rear end off the ground , support on jack stands andhave someone turn a tire while you adjust. I turn until I can just start to hear/feel a slight drag on the inside of the rotor. Try to get both sides to feel about right and then try the pedal. It should hold tightly.

just a spot to look I had a big problem with my e-brake I adjusted the star wheels and still no luck come to find out that my soft peddle pressure on e-brake was due to the e-brake bracket where it was mounted on the firewall was cracked and no matter what I did the peddle was starting to push into the firewall due to this. all of the body shops want around 400$ bucks to fix this. Im cheap so I just use a chalk block. not saying yours is the same problem just something to look at.

K so finallt just today did I have time to get under the truck to tighten the e brake and as I was lookin I realized that I dont have a star wheel.
I have disk brakes on all four corners so no star wheel like on drum breaks.
Anyone tightened their e brake with discs on all four?

The drivers side rubber grommet is on the top of the caliper bracket, the passenger side is on the bottom of the caliper mounting bracket. These rotors are called "drum in hat" rotors and have the inner ring like a drum rotor to house the drum type brake shoes. The hook on the end of the e-brake cable at the backing plate is the same as on drum brakes.
