Driver's side dash squeek

I have a 2001 RAM 2500 Diesel, 2WD. Since I first owned it, it has had a somewhat annoying little "squeek" coming from somewhere in the dash area of the driver's side. I can only seem to hear it when I'm going thru a parking lot, or something similar, at a slow rate of speed. I seem to remember reading about a mount or something causing this, but I forget. Does anyone out there know/experience the same? Thanks.

Check to see if the driver side corner push-in fastener holding the cowl grill against the windshield under the wiper arms is popped. I had a similar noise but only at speed and found the plastic pop-rivet style fastener had loosened up. It is the only thing in that area that I can see might cause my noise, yours might be different.

My squeak from that area came from the aluminum VIN tag on the top front of the dash. A piece of folded up match book cover fixed it.

chaspip....are you sure it's in the dash?

I had a squeek that sounded like it was in the drivers side of the dash also...drove me crazy. It turned out to be the shift linkage on the drivers side of the transmission. (not a big concern).

When your driving and hear the squeek shift to 2nd. or 3rd. gear, if it stops that's your problem. Apparently it's common. I crawled underneath and sprayed mine with WD 40 and it was cured.

Do a search for "transmission squeek" and you'll get more info.

Good luck.

I've also heard of the fuse panel cover squeeking. The little retainer "tabs" that hold it place make the noise. One guy on here put electrical tape around them and that solved his problem.

I had a squeek that seemed to go away if I was turning one direction for a long time (on-ramp or off-ramp), but would come back if straight or turned the OTHER direction. It turned out to be the intermediate steering shaft. It was out of spec anyway, so replacing it fixed the squeek and the steering.

I currently have a stinkin' rattle on the drivers side behind the dash it seems now... not a squeek! Still trying to figure that one out. I was hunting this past week and the rough roads were not friendly.

My squeak/rattle is from the passenger side I think its from where the bleeping dash is cracked.

The transmission squeak and the column squeak are two different sounds. The trans squeak is caused from the bushing coming out of the hole.
The steering squeak quiets down when it is wet outside, then comes back when it dries up. I think it must be the intermediate shaft, but whatever it is it is driving me nuts.

I had the trans squeak too, and that is not the squeak that I am complaining about; that one is fixed already.
