Unhappy Darn Windshield Wipers

No matter what brand i've tryed, they all don't seem to work after 60 mph on the highway, they leave streaks and don't wipe away most of the water.Could it be the arm itself that's not working or what?

It's the spring.

Not enough tension to keep in on the windshield in the wind.

You could try the replacement with the little wings on them, supposedly they push the blade against the windshield better.

Blades don't seem to last as long as I remember them lasting on previous vehicles either.
I'd replace once every 2 years or so, now I'm replacing every 6 months.

is the dealer the best and/or only place to get the arm springs then? pretty easy to change out? I know what you mean on the wipers, however my original set were the originals with 70k on them, very very rusty...

Mine have been that way since the beginning, leading me to believe if you get new springs from the Dealer, they are just going to be OEM quality.

Somewhere, sometime, someone posted a source for a stiffer tighter spring.

Can't for the life of me remember where, when or how.

Did a search, here's a couple previous threads.

The earlier model 12 valves had wipers with a "wing" on them that keep them on the windshield at high speeds but DC in a never ending quest for higher profits eliminated them in '97.

So I researched a bit looking for winged wipers. Turns out that American Products Company makes some that look pretty decent. www.4apc.net then go to the products drop-down to see what they look like. Ignore the one with the goofy blade colors; it comes in basic black as part number 360014, which is a 20" blade that should fit our trucks, I believe. www.stylinconcepts.com sells them at about $10 per.

Cool

Yes, that was a problem for me too! However my neighbor Mr. Fix everyting had come up with a solution. I too now use those double blade sets. Most national chains carry them (Right next to the curb feelers) There a little heavier and seem to work fine, I don't think I have topped 80. Besides I also use those Rain X wipes and when I am on the freeway, I don't have to look at those wipers going back in forth.

I found out the hard way a few weeks ago that after using Rain-X windshield chip repair is near impossible. The repair compound won't stick and the Rain-X is near impossible to remove.

SHARPMACHINE, Yes they work pretty good. They are not real easy to get on, but once on you will notice a big difference.

Infidel, I remember a little of your origanal post on that, how did that work out?

I couldn't get my chips repaired due to the Rain-X. Watched the windshield tech fail twice. I'll live with the chips for now till it's time to replace the windshield. Will never use Rain-X except on side windows from now on.
