Cracked Dash

The dash on my 02 is starting to crack. So far two places are cracked. Has anyone else had the same problem?

I bought the truck new and have not abused the interior kept it clean and things but that’s all.

Mine is cracked in a few places as well. I think a lot of trucks have this problem. The black plastic front to the dash is cracked too....I think that is because I have taken it off and put it back on so many times.

The dash panels are ABS plastic, easier to cast warp-free than Vinyl, but become more brittle under heat - direct sunlite uv\ir, cab temperature in summer, etc.
Seasonal contracting-expanding causes the cracking.

Simple ABS cement repairs are possible, as is replacing the top panel - it is fastened to the lower section with phillip's screws on the inside surface, from behind.

Unfortunately Dodge has\is discontinuing the '94-96 and '97-02 designs as the old 10-year mfr's parts availability obligations pass.

Pre-owned replacements can be found in various truck boneyards, but are subject to the same deterioration.
Try to find one that appears to have been garaged.

jcwhitney and others offer various replacements, including tailored sewn carpet covers which closely adhere to the original shape, and can serve to protect from uv\ir when not garaged\under cover.

Good luck, folks - took a while to find a decent replacement for mine

My black plastic trim has cracked just above the steering wheel. Only I/driver would notice it. I am trying to find out if I can put some 3M stuff on it to repair or just leave it alone. I use Armor All / STP regularly and put up the sun shades when i think about it; i am now putting the sun shades up nearly every day hoping to minimize the Texas heat/direct sunlight

I called DC this morning they asked me to go by a dealer and have them look at the cracks. Gave me a REF # and asked that I call back after dealer reports to them. Should know something next week.

How much is a mopar replacement dash? Those are just covers right?

Mine is cracked in about 10 or 12 places. It is real ugly. The truck is a "TX" truck so it got the sun... now it's in the northeast and it's got the rust. I'd like to at least get rid of one

I talked to the parts guy a couple weeks ago. The 94-97 dash was $600 but that included all the plasctic not just the top panel. This is the only way to purchase it. However the 98+ dash you can buy just the top piece. Should be cheaper than the one I was queted. I ended up putting a plastic epoxy from permatex on the backside of my panel to repair it. It still appears to be cracked (although not nearly as bad as it was) but now I am not worried about my dash falling in my lap. If you are real careful and work slowly this method would be about like superglueing a plate back together. Then spray the dash with a plastic paint and you should be up and running for about $20 and a few hours work. Great chance to fix dash rattles also.
