conversion
Re:conversion
I'd start by looking for an entire undercarriage from a 3/4 ton truck to be able to support the addl weight of the CTD. I don't think the 1500's suspension will be able to do it (if it did, Dodge would be selling them). Find a suitable donor truck to have handy for all those little unknowns that always seem to pop up.
It sounds like a fun project, but it may be lots easier (and less $$$) to buy a CTD RAM.

Re:conversion
I may ask-
Why would you want a Cummins in a 1500? I'd just take a 2500 and shorten it to mount the bed of the 1500.
I have repaired a 98 1500 last week and saw that it has substancially less flesh on the front axle, steering, suspension and on the frame than my 2500.
You'd also have to take care of the tranny and the rear axle and propshaft. Hmmm and a lot more stuff.
