Cab Swap?

Hello;

I recently picked up a parts-truck because of the rust-free doors. The more I look at it, the whole cab has much less rust than mine.

My main intent was also to swap all the power mirrors/locks/windows (and the overhead computer console) onto my truck from the parts truck. But now I'm contemplating just swapping cabs altogether.

The truck that would be receiving the parts is in my signature.

My parts truck is a 1998 Dodge Ram 2500, 2WD, v-10 engine, automatic.

Anybody ever do a cab swap like this? Do you think it would just be easier to replace the rockers/cab corners on my truck and just swap doors; instead of swapping the whole cab?

My main concerns are the engine wiring harness (diesel vs. V10) and 4wd vs. 2wd.

Also ---- I'll be selling the V-10 and transmission later on if anybody is interested (I'll post it in classifieds accordingly)

Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

I would swap the cabs, dash wiring and gauge cluster and then cut a hole in the floor for the 5 speed and 4x4 shifters.
You could change the steering column or you might be able to just pull the auto shifter lever if the wire plugs in are the same, which I am guessing they will be.

Thanks Oliver.

What about the clutch/brake pedal assembly? Does that come out with the dash?

Do you think it would just bolt right into the other cab? Also, the hole that has to be in the firewall for the clutch hydraulics would need to be put in. I'll look in the parts truck to see if there already if a hole there and maybe just plugged.

The dash in the parts truck is in much worse shape than the one in my truck, but only because I slathered on marine JB weld on all my cracks before mine completely fell apart.

Is there anything else to worry about, like the body-wire harness and fuse/relay panel?

The clutch pedal assembly is easy to swap over, It is just a C-clip and the pivot shaft slides to the passengers side and the auto pedals can be replaced with the manual pedal set. PM if you need and I can talk you though that as I have done it dozens of times.
The clutch hydros slide right into a pre existing hole that is covered with a rubber grommet in the fire wall on auto cabs.
The dashes are the same, it is the wiring that is likely different. The gauge cluster is definitely different.
The rest should be pretty straight forward as they are both the same year.. almost.
