A/C condenser

I have a 97 2500 CTD in need of a new condenser. The local scrap yard has one out of a 2000 CTD. I was wondering the two were compatable. Thanks

Best bet is to contact a local dealer and ask them to cross reference the part #'s. Then for sure you would know.

I just went to www.autozone.com and pulled up the part for a 97 and then tried for a 2000. Autozone had a part# for the 97 but not for the 2000. Kinda tells me they're different. Calling the dealer (or a wrecking yard) is a good idea.

Some systems now days, if open for even the slightest length of time, will attract moisture into the accumulator/dryer, resulting in the need to replace that also. Hope your system hasn't been open too long. If it has a small leak and there is still pressure in the system you should be ok, otherwise, best replace the dryer with a new one right away. It will save you alot of headaches in the future.

If you find a used one make sure it is super clean inside when removed caps should be put on the ends immediately and Magnum is right about the dryer to be replaced if open for any length of time

Thanks for the help guys. I went ahead and spent the extra $50 for a new one. I did not replace the dryer though. When I recharged it I had my mechanic put the vaccum on it to suck out any moisture. Works great now though. It wasn't just a small leak though. I rearended some POS 1992 dodge dynasty or something like that. Those plastic air vents pushed back into my condenser. Mangled my bumper, and not a scratch on the other car.

Redrocket, The reason I mentioned the dryer replacement, is that even if your friend put a vacuum on your system and sucked all the moisture out as you put it, the dryer contains a desiccant much like the little packets you find in new electronic equipment. Moisture aka water and "freon" either r-12/r134a will form to make hydrochloric acid, alas your system will rot from the inside out!

If your friend doesn't believe me, have that person check out any I-Car certifications on AC system maintenance and repair.
