Brake dust covered rims

Angry Brake dust covered rims

I am getting tired of my front rims getting dusted often. My front rims become brown looking after a while. The rears look fine, they get a light coat of dust but they stay silver looking. Is there any way to increase the braking power in the rear? I have disc brakes all around.

I too shared your disgust for black front rims.

I ended up with Kleen Wheels on all 4. No ill effects so far, the rims only get dirty as fast as the truck now instead of 3 days after a wash. Once I got my new rims, the dust seemed to look worse and worse, so the sheilds were the best pick for me. Easy install, took about 30 minutes total for all four.

I would suggest getting some HAWK pads (of other quality pad that touts low dust), or spring for the $38.00 and be done with the dust all together.

Oh, they work as advertised, thats for sure. I think some peoples hold up is that they fear it will cause more heat and dust collection on the caliper itself. I haven't had mine on long (maybe 500 miles) I can tell you that the way they are desinged, there is about NO way for dust to get out from behind the rim. They are a very clean fit to the inner side of the rim. If they are loose when you test fit them, the instructions say to simply (lightly) bend the flange outard in a few spots to make them say when you put the rim back on the truck.

There are "slits" in it every few inches, which (im not sure on purpose or not) happen to completely hide behind the spokes on the third gen rims. They are directional (one for each side sold in pairs) so the slit is open to the front in order to draw air in and cool the rotors. Weather that works or not I really couldn't tell you. I haven't had any problems out of mine as of yet.

I bought Performance Friction pads. They're gray. Can't see the dust anymore.

Simple fix=More throttle, more smoke and NO BRAKE PEDAL....LOL

Actually Kleen Wheels product works great!

kleen wheels

kleen wheels works great on my 2500. invested in a nice set of aftermarket rims and got tired of cleaning them. have kleen wheels on the front and when i rotate i just leave them on the axle studs and put the tires back on no problems so far and no overheating of brakes. GREAT PRODUCT

Get you a set of Centramatic wheel balancers. Not only will your tires stay round, with no more bouncing but you will have clean wheels as well.

Just a thought!

I've run Kleen wheels on my truck since new. They work great but you won't be able to see your shiny painted calipers....

I have posted on this subject before. Never had a response that helped. I tow 5 1/2 ton trailer and the rear wheels seldom show any dust. Emergency stops are not pleasant to deal with. Trailer brakes draw 14 amps and the lining is new and truck has an exhaust brake.
I have concluded that the ECM/ABS controls the braking bias on the rear axle. Anyone looked into this? Or, maybe Marco the ECM guru can work his magic on the brake bias.
