Blinker problem-Maybe a short?

O.K., I have a question for all of you that I can't find an answer to. My pickup has a very fast blinker on the driver's side, but only when the headlights are on! It works normally with the headlights off and the passenger side blinker works fine either way. The bulbs are both good, and they both blink with the headlights on, but the driver's side is at a real rapid pace.

So give me your best advice.

Thanks,
Rick

I had the driver's side blinking fast and took the bulb out and it looked new. So we tested all the wires to it and they all seemed to work fine so i went and purchased a new bulb, even though i didn't think that would help. But it has worked ever since. Must have been something wrong but couldn't tell by lookin. So you might want to double check the bulbs. Not sure about the head light part though. Good luck.

That’s strange that you post this because mine is doing something very similar.
My driver side blinker just started doing the same thing today, except mine does
it regardless of whether the headlights are on. I did notice that when I turn on the
emergence flashers that the emergence flashers don’t work and both blinkers stop working.

So keep me posted if you find out anything and I’ll do the same

I fixed mine, it was the pig tail for the trailer hook that was shorting out. The emergence flashers still don't work but that's probably just the flasher relay.

fast blinker is either a bulb that's out or the blinker relay where the fuzes are inside the truck by the driver's door is a bad one...autozone has them

The only problem is that the blinker still works, even when it is blinking fast. It only blinks fast when the headlights are on, would that be a relay? My flashers work as if nothing was wrong, no matter if the headlights are on or not. Thanks to everyone who has replied.

Generally the reason the blinker blinks fast is because of a higher load ( ie.. a short or more lights) then the relay can handle, if a bulb was out there wouldn't be enough load on the relay and the blinker would just stay on. The "only when head lights are on" has got me puzzled.
