Anyone have water getting in the cab?

Ive got the usual leaks around the sliding window that Im working on, but this latest thing really freaked me out. Id noticed there was a damp spot on the side of the carpet on the drivers side down near the plastic edging. I lifted the carpet and found the batting under it was saturated with water. I dont think its coming in through a crack in the floor either, since I couldnt see any sources and I found a puddle in there this afternoon that literally overflowed when I opened the door (yeah, were having rain again here, yay.). All that water accumulated under the carpet by the controls in the few hours the truck was parked this afternoon.
Anyone have this happen before? Ever figure out where it was coming from?

Not sure how it would get to the driver's side, but check the drain for the a/c. The foam that keeps te condensation from dripping in the cab only lasts so long. A 3/4" heater hose clamped on the nipple ran down to the frame will cure it. Not saying this is your problem, but another common leak to check first.

Buy yourself some clear silicone and remove the third brake light. Apply the silicone along the seal. Reinstall the brake light assembly, this is also a known source of water in the cab. I found the 01 I had leaking on the car seat, after I siliconed it no more leaks.

id have to say the door seal at the top of the door....

and or your door is bent a little...

had it like a **** in my old 95 1500.
rolled down the window and pulled in on the top of the door... fixed.

you might be able to feel air with your hand coming thru the area where it is leaking at the top of the driver side door. try looking for air with all windows closed about 55mph, then if that doesnt work try cracking the passenger side window 2" or so.

hope this helps.

I went through a VERY high powered car wash in Texas this year and it caused the seam around the rear window to start leaking. Didn't find it until a week later when there was 2 days of continuous rain. It puddled under the carpet behind the driver's seat. Put a light bead of clear caulk on the rubber weather seal on the top of the rear window and it solved the problem.

I had the same problem with the wet spot in the driver side front. I found that my kids had failed to tell me that there was a Big Gulp sitting on the floor behind my seat before I backed up my driveway.

The third brake light and window trim is a good idea. Ill caulk those when the !@#$@# rain stops.
As for the drivers side floor, Im not sure if it is the door.. I guess I wont know until I pull out the carpet and hit it with a hose. The rubber seal is flush and in good shape around the whole door. But since I did take the doors off not long ago, its possible its not on there right.
My AC is currently busted so I dont think its that, unless water can get into the drain.
Anyone think it might be the hole in the firewall for the wiper arms or the hole for the clutch lines? Im going to seal that up also.

I agree with everyone else, when mine did that it was a combination of the third brake light and the door seal. Even took it to the place that replaced my rear window with a slider. They were nice enough to tell me to fix the third brake light without charging me.

On the door seal, there is a seal on the cab side of the door opening that slides in a little channel all the way from the back of the door to the front part by the mirror. I think mine may have shrunk up or something. The front end of the channel was pinched down, but the back end had slid up about three inches. I just pulled it back and used a screwdriver and hammer to pinch the back end down too. Stopped the leak.

My leak was from the slider and and the front windshield. Added some clear RTV on the sides of the windshield trim. Found the leaks after removing the inside carpet. Had the wife move the hose around until all leaks were identified.

Okay well it looks like I have found the source of all the water.. theres rust holes in the floor. So far I patched the big one that was on the rear of the passenger side. Im having such a hard time getting my welder dialed in that Im almost tempted to fiberglass the whole thing.
One thing I did notice is that dodge installed adhesive panels on the flooring and they hide the rust.
There are some areas between the cab and the frame crossmember that I just cant seem to get access to. Lots of rust up there where the frame traps water.

Break light on mine leaked like a sieve when I first got it. Took it back under warranty and they fixed it. three years later it started leaking again. I pulled it and siliconed it neatly now no more leak.

Im having the same trouble now. My drivers side floor gets soaked when the truck just sit while its raining. It doesnt seem to leak as its being driven. My floor isnt rusty as far as I can tell with the carpet out, its all perfectly painted under there still.

I think youll find that if you scrape that sticky stuff off that youll find a crack or rust spot on there somewhere. Look for any raised areas that arent body plugs.
I scraped the drivers side and found a dent / crack under there.. who knows how that got there. Passenger side was a rust-thru and both were hidden under that black sticky stuff. Water runs down the front of the firewall and under the floorpan before it drips off. The carpet soaks it up like a sponge.
I also found the passenger side cab support was rotted out pretty bad. I poked at it and it disintegrated
Ive spent the last two days grinding and welding. Seems like once I got the knack of using the welder with gas instead of flux I got good beads. Made a new cab support out of sheet metal and patched all the holes.
