airbag light and fuel gage questions?

I just bought a 1998 12valve automatic. First off the airbag light stays on and the truck hasnt been wrecked, How do i get read of this? Second is when the fuel gauge gets to a certain level it goes from full to empty and dings every 30 seconds or so. I read somthing about replacing the fuel sender unit but some guys say it does not fix it. Also when u first start the truck the check gauges light comes on and dings but then goes away but i figured it was just from the fuel gauge. All help is appreciated.

Airbag light is probably the clock spring but you need to get it scanned to be sure but that is usually what causes the light. Sounds like the fuel sender is bad in the tank it is common problem.

I recall reading they were around $70. Get a new one, a wrecking yard one could not last very long and be sure not to fill your truck with the hi-speed diesel pumps, many think this damages the sender.

The fuel sending unit is not bad to replace, jsut takes time. The clock spring is another matter especially with the air bag in there. On my 2000, when it would get -30 or colder, it would ding constantly, but only when pulling a load, strangest thing, really annoying on a 120 mile trip. Put it in a heated garage and it would quit until it got cold again. Up here they wanted $225 for the clock spring and another 120 to install. I traded that truck and was never so glad to see a vehicle head down the road...
