99' 3500 Dually ??

I'm looking at purchasing this truck. Its a quad cab, 4x4, in pretty nice shape with 115,000 miles. The truck has a 6 speed tranny so my question is are all the 6 speeds HO engines or could it be a SO engine? Whats the probability of having a 53 block? I tried to look but really couldn't get my big head in there to see. When I test drive it, I will try to feel for it. Anything else bad about the 99's except the IP and 53 block?? Thanks for all the help folks. BTW... Probably for 14,000...it's mine.

I know that the 6 speed was available with the SO motor until 2001 after which they were HOs. But that '99 is a SO motor for sure. And quite a few '99 trucks were 53 blocks. I don't know the numbers but it seems to me that most 53 blocks that I hear of were 99 and 00 years. I have seen quite a few '01 and even some '02 53s as well as some earlier ones, but '99 and'00 stick out as the most frequent years in my head.

I think 6 speed was not available in 1999 only from 2001 and up.
Consequently it has been modified or it has a 5 speed, and it cannot be a HO

I might be wrong, somebody will chime in pretty soon.

I looked at the truck once already and it is clearly a 6 speed...

You might want to "jump" on it, looks like it's a rare unit.

Yep, the SO 6 speeds are out there. I don't think that much changed on the nv5600 through the years that Dodge used them so I wouldn't expect any abnormal problems with that '99 version.

Check that 53 block.

I'm pretty sure the input shaft was smaller on the SO/6speed combo.

Grab the truck if it is a good driver. But put a grand away for the IP and a couple hundred for the lift pump. You should be ok after that. Maybe starter contacts and new batteries.
