3rd gen wheels on 2nd gen
Hey
Everyone
I just scored a set of 3rd gen wheels for my 2nd gen. I was wondering if anyone had a idea of what size tires I should put on them? The wheels are 17 inch. If you have pics of what it would look like that would be great. I just don't know what size tire I should run.
Thanks
Eric

You can run any 17" tire you want, just check that they won't rub on your control arms.
IIRC 315/75's are around the max size that won't require a lift or offset wheels.
But others will know for sure. I think 2nd gens look best with a tall and medium width tire over wider ones....

I am running 285/70/17's on my 3rd gen wheels and have no rubbing issues at all but I also have front leveling springs and adjustable trackbar.
Size wise... I think they look just about right.

I ran 305/65/17s on my 3rd gen wheels and had a rub on the driver side lower control arm at full lock on a left hand turn. This was with my original front springs which were sagging. I switched to 285/70/17 and replaced my front springs (stock height) and I have no rubbing problems.
Just put some on my truck the other day, went from a 245/75 to a 285 on the 3rd gen setup, looks a ton better!!! I have zero tire rub from lock to lock, but the speedo is 3mph slow now

Hey Deezil, nice try, those last two pics are obviously faked...its not raining!!!
Was admiring your truck the other day when I was in F'dale! I loaned my third gens and Michelins to my Dad for the summer.
Makes me want to get 'em back.
Nice looking truck!

haha, its all good, debating on tire size to put on, it rides way better with the 285's, but need to tow my travel trailer and see how much power I lost, with 3.55's I didnt have alot to spare!
I noticed a bit more grunt, not much, with the shorter stockers when I first put them on. I have a set of taller winter tires I usually run and they put my speedo about 2-3 MPH off according to my GPS.
The taller gears are ok for towing, I have them also, figuring I daily drive more than tow...
I was going to replace the Michelins with some 315 series 17's when I get my wheels back. Going with an All Terrain this time.
