2001 steering shock/dampner/stabilizer stud

Ok... This question only applies to MY2001 (I've been blessed with yet another part that is unique to this year)

I purchased the stabilizer back at 60,000. I put the shocks on, but noticed that the steering dampener uses a proprietary taper bolt that is part of the shock. Looked around and found that many manufacturers don't make a shock for this year.

Well I still have this stabilizer (heckthorn) and I'm ready/need to put it on. I figured I'd ask if anyone has resolved this proprietary bolt issue, or found a workaround. I'm not interested in getting a bolt and grinding my own taper to it. This item has to be replaced when you replace the shock, I'm assuming DC would offer the hardware.
I hope its not like the Torque Converter. They know that trans fluid has to be replaced yet NOBODY seems to put a mother-grabb'n drain plug on the TC ...

Thanks for your help

I've ran into the same problem and just used a regular bolt with a locknut.

Thanks Bill

I guess that's my only option. I'll look around for a basic taperbolt... if I find one I'll post the details for others who may have this problem

My rancho stabelizer came with a tapered bolt specifically for such installation. Check with Rancho I'm sure they'd sell it seperately.

Yeah, I bought a generic stabilizer from Advance Auto and it came with new hardware, including the tapered stud.

Good call... I'll stop by the local NAPA and see what they got... I might get lucky.

Thanks

Well I ended up not being able to get the stock bolt out of mine no matter HOW hard I tried so I just had to cut it off. I got a stablizer bracket that used to U-bolts to hook onto the arm and it worked GREAT!!

ive got a 97 and my skyjacker damner came with a regular 1/2in diameter 3.5in long bolt, but it had a sleeve to compensate for the stock tapered bolt, maybe you can get this same type of sleeve for yours. just throwing it out there.
