2001 with salvage title, good deal??
I believe the truck is in Arlington, TX. After hauling Fema campers for a year & a half in Louisana & Mississippi after Katrina, I have heard all about the weird property & auto insurance laws in Louisana. If this this truck checks out, I'll use my 01 5speed for parts, since it has 350,000 miles. I just put a new nv4500 in it, so if this deal happens I'll let you guys know, in case anybody wants my 5speed.
Something else to check. You are in KY. If you purchase the truck in TX and plan on taking it to KY check on TEMP plates from one of the states to tranport the truck. Also make sure you have insurance to cover the trip. Where in TX is the truck?
I paid $10.5 for my truck a year ago with 100,000 mi. 81K isn't much less. Every seller tries to minimize the reason for the salvage title. YOU have to check the laws AND examine the truck. In my opinion, $14,000 isn't much of a discount for salvage title unless truck is pristine. Water damage would make it a definite no. Everything else can be fixed. Don't fall in love. Go with cash and a willingness to walk away.
The seller can say whatever they want to say. They need to back it up with photos and documentation. "Salvage title" is a big hit on a truck's resale, and it will be very difficult to sell it to someone else without all documentation that you can obtain on it yourself. Have it checked out by a body shop if you go and look/drive it, they can give a much more accurate picture of what happened. Sounds a little fishy to me.
i had a 92 that was stolen, i got it back 2 weeks later and had one tire replaced, all fluids replaced and a meticulous inspection .... there was no mention about a salvage title.
i sold the truck in '95 with a clear title
