Welcome to DTR

Without knowing the work the guys does, that amount of damage that was caused by the wreck it is impossible to guage. One thing is for sure, when you go to sell it I would never even look at a savalged title vehicle. Your market is cut way down, and so is the value.

I would agree with Geico, when or if you ever buy a salvage titled vehicle you better be assured you will own it for the duration as most will not consider one. I would keep on looking, unless like above you personaly know his work or reputation. Also, Welcome to a great website for info on these trucks, stay around and participate!! Goodluck,,Rick

I say if he has the paper work i.e. work donw, damage, it would be a great deal. I do think his prices are a bit high for a salvage title. If you dont plan of reselling the truck they can be a great deal. If you personaly know the guy go for it.

Cool

My truck has a salvage title. Those prices are way High for a salvage title. The only reason I bought mine with a salvage title on it was because a buddy put over a 100,000 miles on his trouble free. I've put over 11,000 miles on mine no with no problems.

If low re-sale was not a concern AND I was able to see the truck BEFORE the restoration work, I would consider a salvage title--- as long as I knew the quality of the work done.

Otherwise a salvage title is the worst kind of used truck roulette. There are going to be more bullets in the chamber and the gun is aimed at your wallet.

But then life can be like that- are ya Feelin' lucky??

Take it from someone who got burned , RUN from anything with a salvage title , i got burned REALLY bad one one, I lost upwards of 3000$ on it , and it took me more than 7 months to get all my money back.

This is the truck:

It was a 97 , auto , with 80 000 miles on it, and the price was fair , and he was upfront about it being a rebuilt , but there ended up to be some circumstances that entailed me owning a truck that legally i could NOT drive on the roads in my province (i bought outside the province) It took alot of bitter argument , and lawyer talks , but the seller agreed to buy it back.

My advise , A salvage title is just not worth the hassel.

Edit to add:

I had a shot at a very nice 98 12v ext cab long box this summer , and i was just about ready to cut the guy a cheque for it , when i researched his business a little bit , and what i found out scared me , his entire business exists solely for rebuilding wrecked vehicles , and he specializes in CTD's , i also heard from some rather unhappy customers of his. I got the ins company to run the VIN# for me, and the truck had been wrecked , to the tune of 14 000$ damage , and i know he didn't fix it all.

These 2 experiences have made me so i will never even consider another salvage title. EVER.

If the price was right and I felt good about the vehicle then I would go for it. One problem is you can't (except for loan sharks) use it as colateral. In other words you have to be able to pay cash, use a signature loan, or someother colateral. The prices you listed would be way to high for me.

Financing

Ditto on the financing. I spent over 35 years in the consumer credit biz
and not one of the companys I worked for would touch a salvage title.
Too much left to chance. But, as said above, if you pay cash.....it's
your money.

WAY to much being asked for those trucks.

Well, my pix came out in a different order then I thought they would, so the pictures dont match the order they are in. instead of 1, 2, 3, the are in 3, 2, 1, order. sorry!!lol Well, I would have to agree with both ends, if you like to build, then by all means, find a salvaged title, if you want something, that you expect to be like new, then they aint for you, me myself, buy salvaged alot, I like to buy a truck, NOT FOR WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE, BUT FOR WHAT IT COULD LOOK LIKE!!.

1. shortly after I bought it,gave $8000, its a 97 with 82,000miles and a rebuilt tranny. I got the sport bumper and grill from a guy in PA

2. I had it all painted up lookin pretty........then sold it for $15000.00

3. when the bank repoed it from the kid who bought it,from me for $15,000, I bought it back for $8500 and went a little diferent route on it.,droped a little money into more mods, and a new pro-built tranny{check sig} and hopefully next week I will get some pix with the new Larado bumper on it!, I love messing with my truck!and I dont have THAT much invested.

On the markets, the salvage title costs about 1/3 the value of the vehicle. Take the book value and lower it by 1/3 and that is about what the vehicle is worth. Does not take much to total a ram these days, hood and fenders will do that. A frame vehicle is pretty safe if the cab is straight and the frame was not bent or was replaced. Look it over good, pay a cheap price. Technecially if you replace the engine it should have a salvage title, any of the major componants. Best to know what happened to it. Bear in mind that Dodge does not sell a new cab shell, just parts. If the cab is changed the cab serial will apply, so make sure what vehicle you really have.

Lower the value by 1/2.1/3 is WAY,WAY,WAY to generous.

Ive owned 4 salvage vehicles and im not scared of tyhem in the least.Nothing like paying 1/2 of what the vehicle is worth....

At least thats the norm in my state,Alabama.
