At 15% discount I would stay away. You just never know what you may be getting into if you don't know what to look for. There is a lot of shoddy work that goes on in the business of repairing wrecks. In the state of GA the vehicle must be inspected by state inspectors in order to clear the title, I'm sure this varies state to state. Nothing wrong with a wrecked truck for the right price if it has been repaired correctly.

Insurance can be a real real real pain in the butt. I wouldnt touch anything that you cannot put collision and comprehensive on and get most of your money back on it if its totalled. Your state laws may not be like ours. you might be able to get full or value coverage if you can get an appraisal from a state licensed place. Again, your state laws might be lots different.
Mechanically theres piles of things that can hide in a rebuilt truck. How do you know the frame doesnt have stress fractures or that the transmission isnt on the way out? Too much to go wrong and lemon laws might not pply.
Id keep an eye out for a decent deal with an owner that took care of the truck.
Even if you get an non-salvage truck Id recommend an appraisal.. and keep ALL your reciepts. I got bit like that once and my wallet is still feeling the pain. ;p

yeah thats one of the problems around here,,, there are no good 'one-owner' rigs around,, they're all really over priced,, i saw one 99 go for 22k,, but it only had like 40k miles on it,,, but still,,, i'm a college kid who wants something that will last for a while, but don't wanna pay an arm and a leg, i've become good friends with this guy and he seems like he doesn't rebuild anything that he himself or his wife won't drive,, he even put his 16 yr old in one the other day,, so i would trust him on quality, haven't ever heard a bad word from anyone about him,, yet,
i'm still kickin myself in the butt for not buyin the 2000 he had there for 14,500,, 100k miles

Price is way high.. Be careful of salvage these days .There are over 50,000 cars and trucks coming out of Lousiana at auction that were under water.

Think about the undocumented salvage vehicles sold under a clean title?
Some states have very loose salvage requirements.

At least if it is stated you know what you're starting with up front.

I have to confess, I bought mine with a salvage title. For me it was such an incredible deal I could not pass it up! The truck looks, drives and runs perfect. Pulls our family RV with no problems. BUT!!, I did do a very long test drive, and a shop checked the frame. For me and my budget, I would have otherwise had to get one with twice as many miles or get a gasser. I paid about $6,000 less, (for a 1999 I got in Feb 2005) than the same truck with a clear title was selling for. And State Farm said they would cover it for about $3500 more than I paid, even with a salvage title!

This is the only salvage title I have ever owned. It also happens to be the best truck I've ever owned! Yet, I do not plan to ever buy a salvage title again, unless it was a super deal and proved to be repaired the right way.

Be VERY careful!! And have it checked out top to bottom first! Also be ready to accept that it may have some future problem that doesn't show up yet.

Salvage or flooded vehicles

We have a local dealer who specalizes in low level flooded vehicles. He has been in business for 20 years repairing and selling 150 vehicles per year for fifteen of those 20 years. For the last 5 years he has done 250 per year. The vehicles are reduced prices and very good. I bought one and ran it for 6 years. He has very few problems. He discloses all up front. So you know what you are getting.

my truck had a engine fire and was rebuilt also. I tracked down the dealer that sold it and confermed the truck was sold 18 months ago. The truck only had 16500 miles when i bought it. I have NEVER had one problem with it. It is a great truck. Im having my first child and need to shave a few bucks off the payments, so im now selling the truck. It is in my sig. e-mail me for any info.

My truck has a salvage title ,I'v had it for allmost two years and have very little trouble with it. I personally know the folks who rebuilt it and trust them. It's true it dosn't have as much resale value so dont pay as much to get it but a rebuilt truck can be a good one.

There not all bad, it depends TOTALLY on who does the work, check there reputation....

There is a guy near me that does R-titles....I wouldn't blink an eye to buy one from him.....it's VERY well known that if it can't be fixed right he don't fix it, it goes to his "yard"....everyone that has bought something from him loves it...I bought mine there and have sent four others to buy from him, and I know about six more people that have bought from him, every one of them have had no problems with there purchase....
