Wow high trans temp.

well i was reading some posts earlier and see people dont like there trans temps getting over 160 degrees or so and started making me think that the 99 in my sig will read up to 180 trans temp driving unloaded cruising down highway here is Az during summer time when its about 120 outside. is this really bad? think i have a problem with my trans cooling system? or possibly bad reading? the reading is through my adrenaline controller not the pulse by the way just the little stock controller. but i dont think it is a sensor problem cause during winter or spring when is only 80 degrees or so outside i wont get over 120.

Those temp sound about right to me, actually pretty good for that warm of outside air temp. Where is your sensor installed?

I run about 160 170 in central valley of ca and summer temps here get pretty warm 100 deg plus

the sensor is located on the side of the tranny in one of the aux ports you, i think thats what its called, i mounted it where the adrenaline instructions informed me to. is there a better place to get a reading at?

The prefered spot for monitoring accurate high readings is the "HOT" line that runs from the trans to the heat exchanger on the right side of the engine.

Hopefully someone else can verify this, but I believe that in addition to your oil-to-air transmission cooler, you also have a oil-to-coolant transmission heat exchanger. I know that this was present on the 12 valve trucks, and I'm pretty sure it's also on the 24 valve trucks with autos as well, but like I said--hopefully someone else can verify that because my 24 valve has the NV4500.

Assuming you have that heat exchanger, in higher temps like you're seeing you're simply not going to see your transmission fluid get below 180 because your engine coolant will always be at least that hot.

That said, 180 isn't a big deal. When I had an auto I tried not to let it get over 200, but I didn't worry too much if it hit 200 once in a great while. As long as you do regular fluid changes, it'll go a long way towards protecting your tranny. That, and never pull hills in overdrive while towing or hauling.

alright thanks yeah i do regular fluid changed with filter probally close or less then 20k. but i dont really tow to much so im not sure what my temps are towing here in the summer. but that makes sense about the coolant/trans cooler being together and sharing similar temps.

i feel a little better now knowing that 180 isnt that bad for ambient temp being 120
