Cummins, plug it in and high idle is a preference but not a necessity.

It's a 5.9 cummins just double cycle the grid heaters and it will fire up no mater how cold it is.

Plug it in and check your antifreeze's potency and you wil be fine.

Unless you're in Antarctica....

Heck, I don't even bother plugging mine in till it hits single digits.

Make sure your grid heaters work, make sure you have HOT batteries, good connections. Also, somewhere near the low double/high single digits is when I block the radiator mostly off with a piece of cardboard between the intercooler and radiator. Put about an 8" hole in the middle of the cardboard to let some air thru.

If I don't, I never get any heat built.

I run 15-40 year round, but it doesn't get to arctic conditions here.

Funker, where are you located?

Switching from 15w40 to 5w40 rotella synthetic helped my truck a lot... Most of the time they start without problem.. the time it takes for 15w40 to get moving through the system on initial start up is what bothers me.. I run 5w40 all year with temps ranging from -20 in the winter up too 100 degrees in the summer with great results..
