What is the Crank Case Breather Bottle?

Hey Guys,
I'm looking at my maintenance schedule and it says at 7500 miles to service (drain) the crank case breather bottle. What are they talking about (don't you just hate breaking in a new diesel guy )? Thanks. ;D

Jones0027:
Welcome to the site. You will find a lot of great people here that have a great deal of knowledge.

There is a vent tube from the crankcase down the front left side of the engine, with a small bottle on the end. IMHO take to bottle and dispose of it. A lot of guys extend the tube so that it drains behind the engine, and doesn't goop up the front. There are threads here that can give you the details on how to extend the tube if you wish. If you want to "service" the bottle, pull it off and dump it out, clip it back in and put the end to the tube back in the bottle.

DeWain

Re:What is the Crank Case Breather Bottle?

Jones the reason a lot of guys move the bottle or extend it back is because of its location right behind the fan. And it causes smells inside the cab sometimes, but mostly makes a mess on the bottom side of eng and stuff due to the fan wash.

If you do decide to move it or extend tube, make sure you don't block off the line with kinks etc, and that it is running downward to allow drainage. ;D
