water/fuel separator problem

Hey everybody

I’ve got a problem. I flipped the drain switch on the water/fuel separator yesterday, and diesel fuel started pouring out. I’m not sure if there was any water in it at all.

I normally do it every 2 or 3 tanks, and there is usually a couple of drips of water, but I’ve never had fuel come out of it before.

Anybody know what’s going on?

Thanks
hailey

Dont worry about it, if you leave it open long enough fuel will come out, it's lighter than water, so water out first, then fuel. Mine takes awhile to start flowing also. You should let a little fuel run out every now and then.

yeah, i can see where a little bit of fuel might come out, but within a few seconds, there was a pretty big puddle of fuel, and there was no signs of stopping.

i don't know if i should be worried about it or not (i'm still pretty new to the diesel world)

As soon as I open mine everything will come out if you let it.

The problem I have with mine is getting it to shutoff after I have flipped it.

I've never had any problems with it before this week. It would always spit a little bit of water out, but nothing like this. You think a new fuel filter would solve it? I change it every other oil change (not due for another one for another 3000 miles or so)

That's probably a good sign, no water in your fuel. I never get any water when i press up on the valve (touching wood as i type), but i always use an additive that gets rid of water too.
