Draining the fuel filter / water separator
The owners manual says around every fuel stop, me thinks.
I very seldom drain mine, only when it starts to run like a piece of junk, or when the Water in fuel light comes on. I dont really have all that much trouble with my fuel, I get it at truck stops.

Every time I have gone to the car wash to clean the engine (I hate working on dirty engines if I can avoid it), the WIF light comes on. The first time I drained the filter out of paranoia & nothing but clear fuel came out. Second time I ignored it with no problem. Seems that particular circuit doesn't like my preference for cleanliness.

Funny about my filter. I've had my truck 10 years 135,000 miles and the WIF light has never come on. I've really never had problems with bad fuel , but I really can't believe I've been that lucky. Years ago I used to drain it semi regular
but I just don't mess with it any more.

I would drain mine rgularly and never saw anything in it. We were cleaning out a store room at work where we keep filters and such. I came across 12 new NAPA filters without the place for the WIF sensor/drain. I got them for nothing and will use them up until gone. I do carry a spare with me just incase though. Hey the price was right.
