VP44 replacement Tips

I pulled the VP44 off of my buddies 2000 CTD last night and will be replacing with a new one today. Is there any tricks to bleeding the air out of the system after install? Also do any of you think that we should replace the cam postion sensor while we are there? Are these known for going bad? Where is the best place to buy one and at what price?

Leave the injector lines loose and bump the key a few times to get the air out. I wouldn't replace the sensor.

I didnt do the cam sensor, but likly should have. 120$nope

Fill your filter before trying to start. I left lines 1and 3 open I think. 1 that was easy to access on each set anyway.

You can do the cam sensor after the fact...i did....but its not much fun.....

Priming suggestions:

Get the lift pump running with the key bump trick. Keep doing that for about 5-10 mins....this forces fluid though the VP-44 and up to the injector lines. I leave 3 lines loose at the head. The ones with easy access. Keep bumping the key until you see diesel dribbling out of the lines....(Most of the time it will eventually...but i have had a few it will not). Once you get the dribble....crank the engine over until you see fuel pulsations. Note the ones that are pulsing. Then tighten up those lines. Then crank at 10 seconds on, 20 seconds off until it starts to catch. The truck will run rough for a bit...but blip the throttle after about a min and is should clear right up.....

.........on the stubborn ones...you can use a gas soaked rag and hold near the open intake on the head. (With the air horn off and heater grid out of the way).....but that is ONLY if you are having issues...you get one or two every now and then......BUT use at your own risk……

Crack 3 injector lines...and a little ether in the intake will start it right up.
