Tips for VP44 Install?

Tomorrow is the big day. Gettin the old one out and the new one in. I started the removal tonight, but ran out of light. Needless to say, I'll be up bright and early.

For those who have done it, are there any tips or tricks to help with the ease of this whole process? Am I going to need to remove the engine hoist bracket for the removal of the #6 fuel line? thread sealer on all the mounting hardware? Any special or unusual tools needed? I've been reading up on it. Just want to make sure I have all the information I need before I do it.

Thanks a bunch. Zach.

I just pulled the rear lift bracket and that made the #6 easy enough to get to,there's a support on the bottom of the VP44 that is easy to overlook,I used a pipewrench turned sideways to turn the engine over by hand (on the dampener,so that the key was on top, don't want that to fall down....a 3/4 crowsfoot is handy sometimes, for the lines on the pump, cause if you have to re-tighten them its hard (read impossible) to tighten em without it.
It's a piece of cake, anyone can do it,its just a little rough on your back.keep everything as clean as you can.

You need a puller to get the gear of the pump. I think I read that you can use the engine hoist braket as a puller.

I got a 5 dollar steering wheel puller at northern tool, and used the intake bolts and it works fine. You don't need to remove the #6 line at the head, just at the pump. I took a magic marker and numbered all the lines and the fittings they went to as well as the line clamps and where they went so I wouldn't have to worry about which ones went where. After this you can just start taking stuff off. It is an easy job, just take your time.
