Vp44 6Speed vs. Vp44 5Speed

Hey fellas, is there any differnce in the Vp 44's, whether it is a 6speed or a five speed can they be interchanged. I've got an 02 5speed and didn't know what the best vp would be for it. Also Mopar sells a vp replacement but it is more expensive, do you think it is more reliable that the 1k ones you can find on the internet.

I'm not the GURU of the VP44 but mine is on its was out, thus I have done way to much research on these pumps. To answer some of your question I think the 6 speed is a High Output (HO) and the 5 speed is a Standard Output (SO). These are not interchangeable. Hope that helps.

The vp's are interchangeable, but you get the hp of which ever pump. Mopar is just overpriced. Best pump is Blue Chip for $1600 or II SHO for $1800 with 80 hp over stock. Piers and Sheids have good pumps also but I have no experiance with them.

Last week I ordered a 95gph FASS system for $600 and an II SHOVP44 for $1700. I'm in the process of installing the FASS right now, but still waiting on the SHOVP44 to show up. I was just curious as to how much more torque to expect from the new injection pump? The guy I ordered it through claims 120-130 ft/lbs; does that sound about right?

There are guys out the playing with the SO pumps on the HO trucks. They run fine. There is a HP difference but that seems to be working quite well with certain fueling boxes and such.

There are a few guys on the NWBOMBER board that are playing with it right now. Jury is still for the most part out, but the results are sounding promising.

That would be me I have the SO pump on my HO truck. It works great, just need to get it on a dyno.

Smokin02, you have the SO VP44 on your truck. I would stay with that. they offer more potential for power then the HO pumps. The HO VP44's are limited by their smaller plunger size(7.0 vs 7.5) if I remember correctly.

I picked up an Ho vp44 from dodge were I have a friend there for 600 bucks. Now would you buy a 600 dollar Mopar vp44 HO, because I didn't hesitate, brand new and I was wondering if I should put it in or sell it and buy the standard SO pump. Also what are the numbers on the pump for the 02 dodge, Vp Part #? And Also is there a difference in reliablility? Thnaks fellas

It's not brand new, but rebuilt! For $600 I'd buy it too! If it was rebuilt properly it should be as dependable as any other rebuild.

If you want more than 500hp, then put an SO pump on, but for that price, I'd be all over it too. good find dude! You might get more bottom end with the HO pump.

No expert, just puking out some fairly common knowledge...

The HO is a higher pressure less volume capable pump. The HO has a longer stroke with less bore.

The HO electronics also come with more timing than a SO pump. The perfomance boxes that add timing will yield less Hp gain with a HO, but max out at roughly the same HP level because the HO pump already produces more Hp than the SO.

I understand the HP increase, but does anyone know about reliability.

I think they are about the same as reliability goes.
