My friend wants some more boost, about 30-35psi. He has slid the fuel plate forward and has turned up the starwheel, and he hits 25psi then the wastegate opens. His turbo does not have a boost elbow, it looks like it is hardline from the wastegate to the AFC housing, How can we increase the boost on his truck, Thanks for the help

 

If you want more boost get a boost fooler, but the boost wont do a thing without fuel and wont go much higher with just a boost fooler.

 

correct me if i am wrong, but i thought that the 12valves did not need a boost fooler because they are mechanial controled, not computer controled like the 24valves. We have increased the fuel on it, so i know that he will be able to boost hight then 25psi that he is at now. Thanks again

yeah, i know that you need more fuel to generate more boost, but the wastegate is set, so i am wondering if there is a way to change the wastegate setting, on these 12v so it makes more boost? Am i missing something here, i have a 24v that is all computer contorled and i am not as familure with the 12v. THnaks

 

you can put something in the little hose, that goes to the wastegate...
so the wastegate wont open

but i dont do that cuz it costed us 2 stock turbos.
but you should be good makin 30 psi.

then there is a boost control elbow for about 30 dls i think, you could go with that one. imho but im no expert

 

thanks for the reply, i dont thing that his has an elbow on the compressor houseing, his wastegate line runs directly from the head of the wastegate to the afc housing, which has me a little bit confused. I told him earlier about blockning the wastegate line, but niether him or I like that idea, thanks again for the help

 

If it still has a cat lose it.
I installed gauges and a #10 plate in a '98 last week, couldn't get it over 15 psi. I had the wastegate line blocked with a bolt and hose clamp.
After the cat came out it could easily zap the 40 psi gauge. The rest of the exhaust system stayed stock.

 

yeah that cat is gone already, that was the first thing that he did to the truck when he got it, straight piped and a NAPA BHAF.

 

I get a steady 33 psi when towing. I only run 1100 on the pyro. Stock turbo w/ either elbow or blocked wastegate. It didn't matter on my set up but installed the elbow just in case I ever needed the wastegate to open.

a 24V needs those, now how Infidel (Bill) said is the proper way to go, u want a little more boost, block the wastegate... with a bolt and a hose clamp...

I dont mean boost fooler as an electrical item, but like the ones you put in between tubo and wastegate, the mechanical ones you buy off ebay. Know as a boost elbow.. Sorry for the confusion.

With the stock plate, getting over 33 psi is about the limit. I had used a heater hose clamp on the boost line right at the AFC and with the plate full forward, the boost never got over 33 psi.

With the #10 plate in the middle somewhere, I have the boost elbow set for 35-36 psi and hit it regularly. Nothing replaces a good plate profile!!!

 

Get a brass elbow (1/8 NPT) and drill from the inside (threaded end) out the back and tap for a #10 set screw. Use a little lock-tite on the thread (removable kind). This replaces the stock elbow on the front of the compressor housing. Screw the set screw in almost all of the way and back it out 1 turn to start with. Then adjust from there. A stock HX35 max efficiency is around 35-36 max.
