I"ve got a 98 24 valve.
I've never had my killer dowel pin dealt with.
I would expect due to the high amount of diesels in Utah, that there would be someplace in Salt Lake, or Provo, that would do this for me.
Or maybe I should have the tab put on and have the valves adjusted at the same time.
Right now it's got about 150,000- miles on it. Runs good, don't want to jinx myself.
THanx, anybody who can steer me in the right direction.

I believe on THIS forum, I have read more than once over the years that some 98s, and some 99s have this problem, and there is no way to tell which ones.
Mine was made in around May of 98, so I don't like to take chances.
I've also read on this forum that there is NO WAY to tell except by taking it apart. (unless you happen to be lucky enough to have a later year.
If anyone else knows stuff on thisk, could you chime in and clarify.
I am sure that DC knows **** well exactly which serial #s of motors have a higher risk of this happening, but I doubt they will ever cough that up.

Not sure, but here's some links to some Utah area Diesel shops that might do it, or could steer you in the right direction.

There's a new one in Draper, but for the life of me, I can't remember their name.

I don't know what Oldwhite is refering to, but there was some place I read mfg date on the 24 valve engine up to june 98 should be done. [B]HOW EVER!![B] up to a 2001 should be concidered. A couple months ago a guy with a 2002 had a pin let go, and he should have had the new re-designed gear case.
You just don't know, It would be wise if there is a question check it out!!-peace of mind priceless.
Is your truck in the Salt Lake area? are you there? What is the situation? Do you want a shop to do it? or do you want help? I realize you don't want to put it off, there are people here that will give a hand if you want. A shop will not be priceless.
