VP44 rear pump bracket
VP44 rear pump bracket
Trying to cover all the bases on this new engine, I looked into the upgraded cast iron injector pump brackets as mine has the old welded type. The brackets come from Cummins as a kit including all the bolts for 43.00 my price. They were out of stock so mine will be a little more with shipping. If cummins went to the bother of providing a kit for it, must be fairly important to change it. When my pump went out the bolt was missing from the old style. Some have said that this is a cause for the pump going out.
Haulin,
Can you point me to any articles or threads on this?
How can you tell if you have the old style or the new part?
Do you know when they started using the new "improved" part?
What is the part number of the replacement part?
Thanks,
George

Well here is one comment from Thumper549:
Re:miles at vp44 failure?
look at your hold down bracket on the back of the pump..they are all broke and cause early failure- buy the newer 2 pc braket...stops pump failure...that from rumor controll at the top.

There are hundreds of threads on VP44 doing a search. You could go over them and find more information on the subject. When my pump went bad, the bolt on the rear mount was missing. I replaced it but the bracket is quite flimsey. It can be identified by the design, the old one is a simple 1/8 thich plate with two bolts holding it to the block and has a round piece welded horizontal at the top for the bolt. The later one is cast iron and more substancial.
The part number of the kit on the receipt is 3938707. It costs 43.77 plus taxes. The kit includes the two piece cast iron bracket and the bolts to put it on, which are different than the stock unit. I have no idea when they changed it, possibly someone else will chime in with that info.
