VP Timing

This may sound like a dumb ? but does the VP need to be timed when it's replaced.

No. There's an alignment key that indexes it to the gear train. The key can only go in one way, from what I understand.

If you do the install, DO NOT LET THE KEY FALL OUT!

Fishing it out of the geartrain and/or oilpan will ruin your week.

It can go in both ways, but only one way is correct. There is a mark on the key. Good thing you put the disclaimer in your sig!

So the key is the only thing to worry about, and the electronics take care of injection timing, and other than that is it a problem changing the pump.

Good catch! I'm wondering if there isn't a secret DTR team out there correcting my misinformation at each turn

There is a mark on the key for which way it should point but Hohn is correct, once the key is installed, there is only one way the VP can align. There is no adjustment.
Be careful removing the old pump too - that key is just as likely to fall out. Ask me how I know!
