Very limited limited slip

What gives? My truck has the 4:10 gears and the limited slip. Have done a little off road and usally if the tires start to spin just one rear does. On wet pavment just one tire spins. But every now and then they both spin and you get the back trying to pass the front If I want the back to spin around that is fine but this do it now and then BS is a pain in the but. I have changed the gear oil and put the limited slip addative in but no real change. Is it time to rebuild it? How hard is it to do? special tools? Should I look at aftermarket stuff? I have an old Monza with an auburn posi in it and basicly the wheels are locked in posi all the time it's great Just think donut and it's done, the 350 helps too

My dads limited slip works great in his dana 80(should be what you have). Mine also worked really great until i busted the pinion/ring gear about 3wks ago. Im in the process of fixing it. Are you sure you have limited slip? I would think it would take a lot of miles to hurt it.

It is a limited slip for sure. It has the sticker in the glove box, the metal tag on the dif and when I had the cover of you could tell. It dose work just not all the time, kind of hit or miss. If I go in a tight circle on whet pavement and give it the go pedal it is one wheel peel. But the odd time on wet pavement and I make a turn in a intersection and realy get on it both wheels start spinin and you can get a good fish tale going . But try again at the next intersection and it might lock up or just one wheel peel.

Try changing the lube and not using any friction modifier. Some diffs are tighter than others, yours may not need any. If it chatters when making tight turns add about one ounce at a time until the chatter goes away.

I would say it's time for a rebuild. Take it to a shop and tell them to remove the UN from the unlimited slip
It could be regular wear or it could be something came lose inside but hasn't come completely out yet. You'll know when that bolt does come out .
If you have the carrier rebuilt for you then removal and installation is a breeze.

Try adding more friction modifier a little at the time before going to the trouble to rebuild it. Sometimes oil is too slick, and the friction modifier increases friction to allow the clutches to grab.

I put in 2 bottles of limited slip additive and it took about 250 miles for it to make a difference a DC tech told me it takes awhile for the additive to take effect.

2003 limited slip is very very different than 2002 limited slip.
Your problem would be best addressed in the 3rd gen forum.

Did you notice evidence of moisture in the diff. when the cover was off? Corrosion is a sneaky thing that causes a lot of trouble. One of the Dodge owners here at work lost his rearend when the vent line plugged up and over time collected enough moisture to facilatate corrosion causing bearing failure. If the clutches still have their friction material, they may just be stuck.
