Turbo seized at 82K.

Where is the best place to get a stock replacement? Even with regular oil changes and always letting it cool down it still went out. So much for diesel reliability....I am going to switch from Valvoline premium blue to synthetic and see if that helps.

Have you had it looked at, to see why it siezed? There is usually a reason, not just out of the blue. Any Cummins shop can get you a long block replacement.

I don't think he needs a long block, just a turbo. Check out e-bay or classifieds for used stockers. But if you plan on upgrading your fuel in the future, now would be a good time to get a bigger one.

Sorry, I misread the title. I thought you said the motor siezed.

Wel, got it off the truck today and both impellars are dug into the housings, the shaft looks like it's actully bent. Looking into the oil return port, it is totally clean with no signs of "coking" so who knows what caused it.....now the question is whether or not to upgrade.

Upgrade it! Any time I have a failed part I always take the time to replace it with something stronger in hopes I wont have to do it again. The extra power is just a bonus

That's weird. A while back I spent some time searching for Turbo Failures on this forum - none found. I even posted a question about stock turbo reliability. Nobody responded with a report of a failure. There should be a LOT of stock turbo's out there from people who have "upgraded". I hope you find one. It just occurred to me that another guy in the office here installed twins. I'll ask if he wants to sell his stock turbo (for cheap).
I just talked to him. He's thinking about it. It was removed with between 30 and 35 thousand miles on it, for no other reason than to install twins. I'll let you know if he's willing to sell it, and how much he wants for it-- if you're interested. BTW, I trust this guy.
Jim
