Turbo question ? 2001
Turbo question ? 2001
Hello Everyone
I've begun to have a problem with my 2001 CTD. It's got about 75k miles on it. When I start the engine it will not REV and spews 'Blue" smoke from the exhaust, it takes a minute or so to "clean up" and then it will Rev normally, if it is the turbo is it OK to continue to drive it, or might it self destruct at any moment? I would appreciate some input on what the problem may be and what I can expect in repair costs, also are there any after market options that are better than stock?
It will be a while before I can get back on line to answer any questions you may have, so thanks in advance for any help you can give

i would ck for codes, key on, key off, key on, key off, key on.leave the key on
the codes will show up in the odometer window as po1693 or xxxxxx.
if you have no codes it will be po done.
if you get 1693 then you will have to use a scanner to pull the rest of the codes.... i bought a cheap one from checker auto ( 70.00) they will pull the codes for free if you don't want to buy one

IMHO it's not the turbo, so no worrying there.
It is however more likely a lift pump or injection pump problem, different level of worry involved.
Check the lift pump pressure, check the fuel filter, check for codes, then report back.
