Trans temp gauge how to?????
Just got a trans temp gauge plan to install it in the coming weeks. I have two questions first of all. All I got was the gauge what sending unit do I need? Second where/how should I hook it up? I’m completely new to the auto world. So any advice is appreciated.

Not sure what yrs , my 94 has a inline temp sensor , I disconnected the factory connector , put a 1,000 ohm resistor to those 2 connections , this fools the computer into letting the trans shift 4th & OD , before trans gets to about 40*F , then put sensor in that hole , it does not sound right , you should have got a sensor with gauge , they need to be calibrated to work together , use the stock sensor to match threads .

Yeah, like mentioned above, the new gauge should have come with a sender. I'd call the place where you purchased it from and ask for the rest of your product.

As mentioned, you'll need a sender. Some are matched the gauge, some are not.
I would recommend putting the sender in the output (hot) line. Many monitor temp in the pan. But I want to know the peak temps of my fluid. After all, that is an indication of he lifespan of the fluid.
Some use the test port in teh trans. This is not a good location due to a lack of fluid flow.
The pan and the port will react much slower to temperature swing. So, you may not see that very high fluid temp until it's too late.

Well first off what brand gauge did you buy? We can't refer you to a good sending unit as (listed above) if we don't know your merchandise.
