tranny problems

I took my ride to the local dealership to get the cold weather option activated, the mechanic asked me if I had any problems with my tranny shifting, I told him it would shift into OD at low speeds but I would lock out overdrive until highway speeds. He told me to bring it in for service and he would activate to cold weather option and download some computer upgrades that might help with shifting. To make a long story short, the dealer ordered a new vovle body for my tranny and says it needs a new one. It is all under warranty, no money out my pocket. Does anybody have anything to say about that? Is this going to be a problem in the future, my ride only has 18K miles and stock. Hardly ever tow a load. this is my first post please be easy on my dumb *** I trying to learn all I can Thanks
did you ask them how they came to that conclusion? did they check pressures?if it were my transmission and acting fine,i wouldnt let them near it.you said it shifted kinda quick, well on the cummins, thats a good thing.you dont want it revving on and on,it just doesnt have any pull up in the rpm`s(stock or near it anyways doesnt anyhow) but if its already done good luck with it,maybe it will help. let us know how it comes out..
When a dealer offers to make a repair you didn't ask for, that tells me that they are aware of a problem that DC has told them to look out for. Anything you can get repaired under warranty is a good thing. The 47RE has had its share of problems and hopefully by them replacing the valve body and reprogramming the trans controller, you have extended the life of your trans. In this case, I would thank the service guy for doing the repair before it became a bigger issue. (And I can get a little hard on the dealers sometimes)
Firebill, welcome to dtr. Here you will find alot of opinions most of them good ,some bad, some from personal knowledge others from what ever.All-n-all this is a good group of guys to ask and they are always willing to help you.If they don't know it they can send you to who does.On your tranny i would get detail from them on why and what and get the codes they got from the computer when they checked your truck out. Also to help you under stand your truck more read more threads here and go to

When I went to pick up my truck of course the mechanic was at lunch so i did not get the chance to chat with him. However they called today to say the new vlve body was in and made a appointment next tues. I plan to chat to him before he starts to get the facts and I will be glad to share with the rest of you. I took my truck to a local tranny shop that has a good rap. He told me that my truck does seem to slip when it goes to OD lock up but not to bad. He said the same thing let them fix it under warranty it does not cost you a dime.. I will let you all know the results as soon as I know them thanks for the help.
FB ,i checked the tsb on your tranny and found nothing.i know that was one in earlier years, mine ,for need of a possible valve body mod ,minor, if it takes to long to shift 3rd to fourth at the prper voltage.

here is the deal, the mechanic at the dealer told me that the tranny pressures were measuring to low and he could not figure out why, so DC told him to install a new valve body and test it. So he did and the tranny does shift a little better and he said the pressures are were they are suppost to be. They also replace the tranny filter and what fluid comes out when they dropp the pan, so I guess we will run with it and see how she does, thanks for all help and opinions, You all have been a lot of help Thank you
