Tranny Problem

My Tranny is taking a long time to shift from low when I take off. My speedo has been slugish for some time could both problems stem from the speed sensor? If not any Ideas?
Thanks all

define "slugish". Also, can you make it shift quicker by taking your foot completley off the throttle and mashing back into it?

the speed sens on the tranny is on the tranny "tail" Driver side. there are 2 sensor only on my 47RE on the driver side, 1 Reverse & back up light(near the shift linkage) and the other is the speed sensor.
