Dublin, CA, so not close enough to help you out much personally. I would look around for a shop with a cool reputation and see if you can get an opinion from somebody there. More than likely you are due for a TC/VB at the least. I highly recommend Dave Goerend or Suncoast for all your tranny needs.

yeah, you can certainly start by adjusting the bands, checking the fluid, making sure there isnt too much metal/clutch sludge in the pan, etc. That will help a bunch

Could be an electrical problem. Clean all the grounds. Had the same problem, spent money on a trans and it was sill there. Replaced alternator and problem was gone for a while. Started again just recently so I cleaned the grounds, did the aluminum foil trick (black wire with tan strip if i remember right) on the wire that goes to the pas. battery. also check the 2 connections on that same wire by the passenger battery. Pulled mine apart and cleand them up also. Truck does not cycle back and forth anymore.

Just found one of the old posts about this. good luck

"To fix torque converter cycling and transmission shift cycling several options known to work:

1. wrap the alternator output wire with a metallic shielding (tin foil or similar) and follow-up with electrical tape. This is the feed wire from the alternator to the battery (may be black/orange in color)

2. Install a RFI filter on the alternator output wire and/or the APPS circuit wire (APPS sensor to the ECM). Almost any decent RFI filter/choke should work. Search for these terms:

47RE RFI Noise Filter
RF Choke
RF Ferrite Choke

3. Clean all ground-wire connections at the battery terminals, engine block, and firewall.

4. Locate the ground-wire connector for the PCM (behind the passenger-side battery). Cut out the connector and solder the wires together (do not use another butt connector). Seal with heatshrink.

If the stop light switch is out of adjustment flickers on & off, it will cause the convertor to go in & out of lockup. I had 2 different trucks I worked on with this problem. Also a TPS wigging out could cause this.
