Truck Idles high after driving on highway
My father has an 02 6 shooter with 185K miles on it, i talked with him yesterday and he said that after he drives the truck on the highway for a distance 10-20 miles and then gets off the highway and comes to a stop the truck will idle at 1100 Rpms instead of the normal 750 rpms. I am not sure what would cause this, maybe something with the computer/something electronic. After the truck has sat for a little while, and he starts it back up it idles normal. I told him to check for codes via the key cycle but i have not heard back from him yet. Any ideas on this? Thanks

I had the exact same problem along with an occassional dead pedal. I had a voltage problem to the apps (code) too high or low cant remember. I ended up changin the apps and cleanin the IAT sensor and no more problem which it was I dont know but they solved my problem. Hope this helps because it sounds the same as mine.

my 03 does this. but its closer to dead on 1000rpm not 1100. mine only does it in the cooler weather time. after it idles up i can put the engine under load. whether it be mashing the brake pedal, make the AC cycle, or putting it in gear and clutching it out. after it drops down to normal 750 i can tap the gas up to 1000-1100rpm and it will stay there

The truck has never done this before, he purchased it brand new back in the fall of 01 when the 02s came out, never had this symptom before. He checked for codes and had none. Thanks

Mine would never show a code until a dead pedal. It would constantly idle at around 1100 and it would get a dead pedal when it would go up to 1250 or a little above. It would go 6 mo or so between DP.

I would also vote for the APPS. My higher idle would only occur when I used the cruise control. This would never leave a code. When I had the dead pedal it would leave a code.
Changed the APPS and all is better.

He is on his third injection pump, and when he got the third one put on, it is supported by a fass pump and a fuel pressure gauge. He has had gone fuel pressure to this thrid pump since the day it was installed. I know that does not really mean much as these pumps are junk. I think i will have him do a APPS reset procedure and see if that helps before he buys a new one. Thanks
