Track bar
last fall we were checking the front end on my sons 2001 3500 which he had just been given by this Grandad. We knew that the truck had been neglected for some time but when we checked the track bar the front axle moved about 3 inches sideways, I couldn't believe it and wouldn't have without seeing it with my own eyes. A visual inspection of the track bar looked good and the truck drove ok even at highway speeds.
The trac bar we installed was just a direct replacement second gen but it did say on the box that it has been manufactured in a way to address the problem of the one end wearing out so fast and also mentioned something about the material used. If I remember right it was a larger joint on that one end, it was nothing special just from the local parts store.

One my new back then '95 I bought a lifetime Moog one and just swapped it out every other year.
I ran 33X12.5 tires on 9.5 inch wide rims back then so it really was hard on those track bars.
I went through 6 or 7 track bars in about 14 years. I also run a lot of dirt backroads ups here.

I considered it but Thuren had me check to see if a spray paint can cap would interfere with the differential cover hitting the mounting ring on the drivers side. It just missed so I didn't go with the 3rd gen conversion. But I have read a lot of guys that did were happy with it,,,just need a certified welder to attach the bracket and cut off the old one.
