Tow truck tranny?

Tow truck tranny?
One of my buddy's brothers is putting a tow truck tranny into his Ford PSD (it runs 13.2's). He said those trannies are built stronger than normal ones. My question is are they really that much stronger? Who builds them if they are? If I were to swap one in to mine, do you think the dealer would notice if it is a Dodge tranny? Depending on yalls answers, I may be looking for a wrecked Dodge wrecker.

Re:Tow truck tranny?
I owned a Towing Service and I just took normal trucks and double framed them and installed the wrecker...I never heard anything about special trannys :-[ :-[ :-[

most tow trucks have allisons or just a regular tranny. i'm very sure that ford didn't update any trannies for the F-250 to F-550 cab and chassis. He should just go with a BTS or DTT tranny (wait, must be a gasser?). only an allison will hold a little more power which isn't worth the loss of power through those things. a modified transmission by the typical modifiers is about our only real option.

Tom

OEM tow truck trannies, don't exist,at least for Dodge. What you are refering to i believe is a modified trans with more torque capability, than stock. Your trans is the 47RE,which is essentially the same trans they put behind the 426 hemi, except for the overdrive unit the hung off the rear of it.It is Dodge's strongest trans, but modifications like shift kits or torque converters can enhance it's performance.Contacting places like ATS,would probably put you on the right track for what you're looking for. By the way yes they will notice a Ford trans in you're Dodge.TGCTD
