Swapping 4.10's for 3.55's
Was just wondering if there is any kind of re-programming issues that need to be addressed when swapping 3.55's for 4.10's (or vice versa)?
With my 3.55 gears and 285 tires, I feel like I'm way out of the sweet spot, especially with our 4500# TT in tow. The RV275's I'll be installing this week will certainly help as will the EZ box I'll be getting in the next month or two. I'm just asking this question if I ever do decide to swap gears. Thanks.

You'll need to have the ECM re-programmed, and any Dodge dealer can do that.
When they do it, they can also account for larger tires, just have them put in the tire revs/mile.

incorrect......you can change gears. The speed input signal is read from the rwss on top of the rear housing. It sits above a tone wheel behind the ring gear and there is only one part number for that tone wheel. Whether you ran a 3.55 or 4.10 it will be fine......now if you change tire size THAT will need reprogramming but we'll save that for another thread. FYI i swapped my 4.10 axles out with a co worker who had a similar truck with 3.55s. Best change I made for my usage.

you'll be amazed at the towing improvement you get with a little added power. i have a manual trans, but the auto truck guys say the change to a better torque converter and valve body is like an additional horsepower boost because the stocker has the wrong stall speed and not enough holding power on the lockup clutch.

Good point Beast, he is currently running stock. Put that EZ on there and all may be well......as long as he's saving for the convertor you mentioned. I know that's what I need to do. I took my EZ and wastegate mod off for a week just to check mileage on a road trip not towing. Forgot what a gutless lame pig it was in stock form.

Thanks for the info.
I know the stock TC is wasting a lot of power that the engine is making and installing a better one would be the equivalent of getting more torque/power out of the engine. But the truck has 110k on it with the stock tranny/TC so I really don't wanna throw ~$1000 at a new TC when the tranny itself may very well give up the ghost in the next 50k or so.
Once I get my 275 injectors and EZ installed, maybe I'll change my mind about the gearing swap. For now, it's just an idea.

........of course after you get your injectors and EZ installed you could easily drive through the convertor clutch with the new found low end grunt of the mods.......it just never ends
