Surging

Howdy fello diesel lovers. I have a question. A friend of mine has a 2000 dodge cummins ram with the cummins turbo diesel in it and she asked me what could be causing her truck to surge. I have not looked at it yet. She says she changed the oil, oil filter, and the fuel filter. The only thing she figures is the tranny fluid and filter could be the culprit. I wanted to ask you what you think the problem could be before i take a look. I had installed a low fuel pressure light on her truck last year that comes on at 5psi or lower. She gets it to come on a lot the way she drives. So I am concerned that the vp could be going. At the same time I put the low fuel pressure light on I installed a new lift pump cause the other was done. I noticed this when I put in a new fuel filter for her. I also put on a big line kit for her to help supply fuel. She has the TST on her truck, but it is just the TST1, so it has more power than stock, but only like 90 horses. What do you think the surging while driving could be caused by?

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
She has a diesel! Does she have a fishing boat also?
What speed does it surge? Tranny fluid and filter not the problem. You said nothing about a shifting complaint.

I would look at everything else first before shelling out $$ for a vp. I would check the IAT and MAP sensor and I would also reset the APPS using a voltmeter, instructions are in the Tech section.

Check for codes and remove the TST and report back. Certain modules have been known to cause surging in the right conditions.

My truck was surging as well, faint, but noticeable. I did it really noticeably at idle a few times when I started it. Checked the codes and got the 0216. I cleared it at the dealer, came back on 4 days later, still surging off and on. I figured it was the VP, then on the way to the dealer, it shut off and strted back up on the highway. Unfortunately, the VP going is a real possibility.

Ok, thanks for the answers. I will reset the apps. I have smarty, so I can check for codes first. I will post results after I get to the truck and see.
