Strange tranny problem
Strange tranny problem
When I first start my truck in the mornng I put it in reverse and back out of my carport. I then put it in drive and pull forward a few feet to get enough room to back on to an apron to turn the truck around. I then drive 35 feet to where the driveway hits the street and stop to look for traffic. When I try to pull out the tranny acts like it is in neutral the engine just revs up. I have to put the selector in neutral and then back to drive to take off. I drive it off and on the rest of the day with no problem. What the heck is causing this?
You might not have enough tranny fluid in it or there might be a small leak somewhere. Have you checked the fluid recently. I have a junk truck and when I start it up, I start it up in neutral, to let the tranny fluid pumping. It sometimes has the same problems as yours.First I would check your fluid.
Mine does the exact opposite, whenever I take off for the first time of the day....it feels like the E-brake is on or that I'm starting out in 3rd.........now it only does it if I stay in drive......but if I pull it down into first it takes off just fine......it's weird!!

Nick, your problem sounds like the govenor transducer which is located on the valvebody. Easy fix if you are handy and can be done without pulling the valvebody off. Change the gov solenoid while you are at it. get the parts at a Trans supply house.
For XMR, have you looked at the check valve in the cooler line? you may have a drainback problem.
Hope this helps.

Try running about 1/2 a quart high on the fluid level. That usually fixes a problem like that up. Sounds like you are experiencing a little big of converter drainback.
The first thing that I checked was the tranny fluid and it was on the full mark. I will try adding some more and see what happens. If it was the check valve in the cooler line I would have thought it would do it when I first started it up.
