Strange Noise
Strange Noise
Hey guys I have a strange noise thats coming from i think the rear end i dont know how to discribe it but when i down shift it makes a poping noise kind of like a loose hubcab but there is no loose hubcaps but its that kind of noise. if it were the tranny wouldent make the noise in any gear? its not hte clutch because its not slipping at all. could the forks in 2nd and 3rd be the blame i dont know were to start but the only noise comes in those gears. every thing else runs just fine it powers up the hills like normal shifts though every gear with out hesitation and down shifts the same way just has that noise and its starting to bug me.
the fronts are good to go but i am starting to think it is somthing on the either the driveline goin to the yoke ill have to get the shop cleard out and giver a once over. i have pretty much ruled out the tranny and the clutch becuase i can stand on it in any gear and it will not slip and the tranny is nothing wrong with it.
possible that a wheel is loose. You wouldn't hear it on accelleration cuz a good CTD makes a fine noise. But on the down shift the drive train would take the strain before the whole thing spools up, but then you would hear some amount of noise on braking but not as much because it would be a more gradual decelleration.
got the truck on the road today all three of the ujoints on the rear drive line were toast i mean major toast got it done this afternoon and took it out for a drive and almost every single problem that i have had was gone. the vibration that i just wrote off as a tire a little off balance the tapping sound was obvisouly the ujoints and the hard shift that happend when i ran the truck up in the rpms and pushed the clutch in was gone best thing i have done so far to the truck. spent many hours last night reading and found couple threads that hit the nail on the head. thank god for this sight helps me save money and frustrations.
