strange idea on L/P alternative

I'm just sort of thinking out loud, what about putting an in tank high pressure fuel pump, like the fuel injected gassers use.
They seem to last forever, I know the pressure is to high, maybe put a regulator that returns excess to fuel tank?
Another question, it seems the engine block has a spot
to mount a mechanical fuel pump, I'm guessing the 12V used this?
I've never noticed what a 12V uses for fuel pump. If they do use a mechanical pump, do they not put out enough volume, pressure for a VP44?

The 12 valve pump is driven off the cam. It's a very expensive project. Someone on here recently did the conversion him self. Said it wasn't to bad. I've also thought about putting a gasser fuel pump in tank with a regulator, but I don't know how it would do with diesel.

I've often thought the same thing. The fuel module in the diesel is the same as the gas, just empty without the pump. A fuel regulator in line and some wiring should be about the only additional work. I would like to hear some thoughts on this too.

J BODY good info, I wondered what the differences were.
Here is a pic of a gasser module. http://www.fuel-pumps.net/fuel-pumps...4-35-gal-.html

Not having any luck finding how much these pump. Or psi, did find a place where they said high pressure in tank fuel pumps
are around 90 psi. Pretty general statement though.
THe 5.9 gas and V-10 use the same part #

I just had a V-10 pump go out at 53,000 miles. It was $239.00 at CarQuest.

There is a filter/regulator on top of the fuel module for the gassers. Line psi on the gas engine in 40-42psi.

My question would be is that pressure too high for the lines on a CTD truck? There are some wimpy clamps on the line from the filter to the VP44. I haven't looked at the connection from the frame's steel lines to the existing lift pump, but this may be another weak point, even if eliminating the stock lift pump.

Stamey, I was thinking of putting a regulator right by the fuel tank, one with a return port, plumb in another return line right back to tank. I don't think 40psi going to VP44 is a good thing.

erics76, I had a 96 1500 with 90K miles on it, had no problems with intank fuel pump, I have a few friends with gassers and none have had pump problems, I wonder, are we lucky and your
experience is the norm, or were you unlucky? Would be nice to get some reliability data on these pumps.

We usually keep our cars to 150K miles. We've never had a pump failure on any of them.

I'm thinking more and more that our V-10 was a friday truck, but when I called the dealer to see how much the pump was, he was out because they had installed the two they keep in stock in the past week, so they do go out. Although I'm sure not as much as the lift pumps. If you do go this route, don't buy one from dodge, the price he quoted me was around $450. $239 from CarQuest.
