Around the middle of this webpage you'll find the instructions on how to jump the VP which will let you know if its at least functioning. VP44 Diagnostic
Bluechip is a good VP source but they're the most expensive too. Ol' Chip who used to run that place was quite knowledgeable about the VP and contributed to a lot of its upgrading. That said, they need to update their website because some of the information is a little conflicting of what we (and they) have learned over the years. But nonetheless, its still a good source of info.

Wow, that's quite a list. Reading the other symptoms I've seen before it died, I got the bad feeling the pump is DOA.

Replaced the Injection pump. Had some anomalies that cleared up later. It's running fine now.
