Question Straight pipe in Germany (leaving in APR)

I am leaving in Apr and am curious if anyone has a straight piped dodge over there or now if it can pass the TUV inspection that all cars from the US must pass to be allowed to be registered. Dont wanna have to put one on but if I must a new 4 Incher (exhaust) is on the way.

First of all thank you for serving your country!!

Your truck should pass any thing thrown at it as there was never a cat on it!

If you are returning to OK the more the better!

If you are near Pistol Whipt (Stuttgart) hook up and buy him a beer for me my treat before you go! Yes I know Navy guys sheesh!

I was in K-town near Sembach in high school so just bring back some real beer for you buddy Rick, (I'll buy), will ya!!?

The Germans aren't real savvy on what came as standard equipment on American vehicles so you can get away with some things (like aftermarket suspension ... paint everything flat black and noone is the wiser).

I think that if you just had a straight pipe with no muffler AND no resonator ... it would raise a couple eyebrows. A professional mufflerectomy leaving the resonator might slip through unoticed.

They do look at some things pretty thoroughly .. lights, parking brake, oil leaks ... etc. Your brakes are one thing that you could have issues with. They put your truck on a dyno of sorts to measure the difference between the left/right side and front/back. Gotta be within a certain % of each other.

Thanks. It has been since 96-99 when I was last in Germany. I had bought a new car so I only had to get 1 inspection. Do you feel a quality muffler is worth the money or just throw used resonator on it. The other option is to put on a 4 Incher. Then after the inspection put on a straight pipe and hold onto the muffler for the next inspection. Summit had 4 inchers for a resonable price that come with muffler and a straight pipe if you want it.

I will be in Tompkins Barracks near Hiedelburg.

well you guys need to remember that you are going to have to pass a inspection that also listens to how loud you truck is. So if i were you i would spend some money on a good muffler just to be safe because once you get over here parts are a pain in the **** to get.

I have an idea !

Why not just leave the truck alone? Easier, cheaper and maybe the Germans will like you better too. Just a thought.

I was stationed over in Germany from 92-95, at Larson in Kitzingen. Although I didn't have my truck then, I would just put a 4" with muffler. Some of those towns have really tight streets with housing close to the road. Germans will drop a dime on you in a second if you disrupt their peace.

They are correct about the noise. It isn't the guy at the inspection station that you need to worry about, it's your busy-body neighbor or the guy in the Mercedes Benz next to you at the stop light that you have to worry about. They will think nothing of pulling over at the next wide spot in the road to call the polizei and tattle on you.

A buddy of mine has some good sounding pipes on his Harley and has had the local gestapo called several times by his neighbors. The neighbor watches from his upstairs window and gets irritated because when they show up they get to BS-ing, sitting on and drooling over his nice bike and nothing ever happens .

Even the big semi trucks are very quiet. Go for the muffler and concentrate on bombing for Autobahn speeds ... you are gonna want to .

German Law

Are you guys saying that U.S. Service personnel are required to go to the German TUV inspection station for your inspection now instead of going to the inspection station for POV's on the installation? If so, they have changed it since I was there last. Sonny

the truck didn't come with a cat, so no worries there.

get one of those 4" straight pipe mufflers from Rip... it's a muffler case w/ straight pipe run through it
