Stock Turbo Longevity

I'm relatively new to the CTD world, but haven't read ANY threads regarding failure of the stock turbocharger. Do they ever fail?? It seems like anything that spins that fast for that many miles ought to fry sometime.
Semi-related: If the stock turbo really does last virtually forever, and people are putting bigger-better-faster tubos in, are their a bunch of perfectly good stock turbos out there? If so, I'd like to buy one really cheap to build a small, completely impractical turbine jet engine from.

I think they go a long time without any mods and regular oil changes.

Stock turbo's can last a long time if they're not "overspun" or cooked by towing really hot.

stupid question here maybe, but how do you change the turbo oil? Also, I have the stock air filter and box and I am probably ready for a filter change, should I stay stock or does any of the aftermarket stuff help with performance.

He did not mean turbo oil change, as the turbo uses the engine oil system. He was referring to guys that run 20,000 plus without changing oil in the engine.

Thanks, I thought it was in the normal oil route, but the post made me second guess myself.

Have 400K on mine with no problems. Always careful to let it cool down before turning the engine off. Have a friend that ran a school bus shop. When they started getting in diesels he explained about letting them cool down a bit. They had several failures. He called them in again and told them that any more failures would have to be at the expense of the driver. Never had another failure.

OOps! I haven't changed oil in 78 thousand miles. Add a little but no change.
